Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL) With Visian ICL
At Bernitsky Vision, our focus is you and your unique vision needs. We offer a range of procedures to improve eyesight in Albuquerque. The implantable contact lens surgery with Visian ICL is an innovative vision correction solution that can help patients with severe myopia (nearsightedness) who may not be candidates for other procedures such as LASIK.
How Does the Visian ICL Procedure Work?
The Visian ICL is a lens made of a highly biocompatible material called collamer. Dr. David Bernitsky, an experienced ICL surgeon, will order your lenses customized to your vision needs. A numbing anesthetic will be applied prior to ICL surgery and you may be offered an oral sedative. A small 3 mm incision, which does not require stitches, will be made and the lens is placed inside the eye just behind the iris. Once in place, the ICL is not visible and can be removed if needed.
Visian Toric ICL
Bernitsky Vision is pleased to offer the Visian Toric ICL to provide a wider range of vision correction options for patients with astigmatism. While the original Visian ICL was not able to treat astigmatism, the Visian Toric ICL was recently FDA approved to treat patients with myopia and astigmatism. This development significantly expands the possibility of vision correction for patients who have astigmatism but are not candidates for LASIK.
What Is The Difference Between ICL and LASIK?
LASIK and ICL are both effective vision correction procedures, with several differences. One primary distinction between the two methods is that, unlike LASIK, ICL does not reshape the cornea or remove any corneal tissue. ICL is not a laser procedure and it can treat patients with more severe myopia and those who may not be candidates for LASIK due to thin corneas or dry eyes. Additionally, ICL is reversible if the patient wishes to have the collamer lens removed.
