About Lasik

Dr. BernitskyLASIK EYE SURGERY

Lasik – Laser Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis is now the most commonly performed surgical procedure for the correction of near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism. An estimated 5 million people have undergone Lasik worldwide. Lasik is a safe and highly effective procedure to reduce dependence on contact lenses and glasses.

We perform Lasik in our state-of-the-art climate controlled laser suite. This facility was specifically designed for the optimum functioning of excimer lasers. The procedure is done using anesthetic drops to numb the eye.

The procedure is entirely pain-free.

Once the eye is completely numb, Dr. Bernitsky creates a corneal flap using the Intralase Femtosecond Laser. A cleavage plane is created in the cornea using a bubble layer created by the laser light. Once the flap is created, the corneal bed is gently reshaped with a cool ultraviolet laser beam. The laser reshaping of the cornea usually takes less than a minute. The protective corneal flap is then returned to its original position and the procedure is complete.

The total time spent in the laser suite is usually 15-20 minutes.

Family or friends are welcome to watch from the viewing area if they would like. You will rest in our comfortable recliners for about 20 minutes and then go home.

Generally by the next day people have legal driving vision and are able to participate in normal activities.

If you need reading glasses, bifocals, or trifocals you probably have presbyopia, and may want to consider monovision.
